Urban birding at Hull: a May walk to the Setting Dyke

A morning walk to the Setting Dyke area. The female mallard has managed to get 8 of her 10 ducklings to a good size (above). The dyke is looking good, many marginal and floating plants growing, the water transparent. I notice some fish, the photos show that they are sticklebacks, males in breeding colours, actively defending nest sites, and females with a full abdomen, ready to lay.
Male Three-spined Stickleback.
Mature female stickleback, much more camouflaged.
Singing Wren.
A Woodpigeon on nest.
A Mistle thrush feeding in the middle of the playing fields.
