Urban birding at Hull: a May walk to The Deep

A very warm day, with little wind and sunny, I take a walk to The Deep via Freetown Way, and then take the public right of way by the River Hull by Drypool Bridge. It's near midday and it is relatively quiet on the bird front compared to my previous visit (no Osprey!). Walking around town during lockdown it's an interesting experience. Traffic, and noise is much reduced, and there are some people walking, cycling or running. The lack of traffic has an interesting effect on my perception of the landscape, and features I wouldn't had noticed before are now visible, like vision is somehow expanded. This may have something to do with the notable air clarity and transparency, probably due to reduced pollution levels. Of course it is easy to record birds, I don't carry binoculars, just my camera, but song carries far when background noise is reduced.

A little patch of saltmarsh is growing on the river bank bank opposite the Deep, with plenty of small Sea Aster plants establishing on the mud.

Looking SE towards the Humber Mouth. A light breeze bringing the smell of the sea.

A Linnet sings at The Deep car park. On my way back, just by a green path parallel to the A63, I hear a Lesser Whitethroat singing. At least 3 Holly Blues are about, with an Orange Tip and a Speckled Wood butterfly.
