January walk to East Park

The first walk of the year to East Park is always a plan to boost up that year list. Today, although weather was mild and with sunny spells, the total bird list was just 32. Despite this, I added 10 species to the year list. The best were a pair of Bullfinches on the way feeding on bramble seeds. They were unusually confiding, but an alarmed Blue Tit send them diving for cover.

This cob Mute Swan had a large, wonky knod. He greeted me with snorts and head-lifts, while his mate...
...hissed at me while I photographed the Pink-footed Goose.

And the oiled slicked back drake Goosander style.
A Grey Heron replaced the Cormorant that was in the middle island.

Just three drake Pochard sleeping near the feeding area.
Two Pied Wagtails were together near the bridge. I've been keen to photograph wintering pairs of wagtails for a while. Today, the opportunity presented itself.

A very bouffant female Goosander. It seems odd for a female duck to be so ornamental.

... and a smashing picture of the male Bullfinch against a matching background.
