A visit to Noddle Hill early in the year is certain to top up your bird list. I join Matt and Andy for an early morning walk around this wonderful local nature reserve. It is frosty and there is a lot of ice. There is just a tiny amount of free water around the lake, where Coots (32) and Mallards are currently standing. We clock 39 birds for the few hours we are there, the cold finally getting the better of us, but this increases my year list by a whopping 15 species, including some that are hard to see away from this site, like Tree Sparrow (33) and Yellowhammer (34). A group of Lapwing (35) sit on the fields, with two Pheasants (36) by a distant hedge. The Barn Owl (37) was a wonderful highlight of the morning.
The icy lake at dawn with Mallards and Coots.

Reed Bunting (38)

A Fox, trotted towards us.
Pheasants.
To complete the new year additions we got Cormorant (40), Kestrel (41), Linnet (42), Redwing (43), Rook (44), and a calling Water Rail (45) and Bullfinch (46).
